Basic Editing: Trimming & Splitting

Master the fundamentals of cutting and arranging your clips.

Adding Clips

Drag any item from your Media Library directly onto a compatible track on the timeline. You can place it at any time position you want.

Trimming Clips

To change a clip's start or end point, move your mouse to the left or right edge of the clip on the timeline. Your cursor will change, and you can then click and drag to shorten or lengthen it. This is called "trimming".

Splitting a Clip

Move the playhead (the vertical line with the circle) to the exact position where you want to make a cut. Select the clip you want to cut, and then click the "Split" (scissors icon) button in the timeline toolbar. The clip will be divided into two separate clips at that point.

Moving and Arranging Clips

Simply click and hold a clip on the timeline to drag it to a new position, either on the same track or to a different compatible track. Overlapping clips on the same track is not allowed.

Deleting a Clip

Select a clip on the timeline by clicking on it, then press the Delete key on your keyboard or click the trash can icon in the timeline toolbar to remove it.
